Welcome to CGC Prep Academy at KraftyK9! ​

"The AKC Canine Good Citizen™ (CGC) program provides a perfect framework for training your dog to become a polite member of society. Based on you and your dog’s training needs, you have multiple options to get started."

Our CGC prep program consists of 4 classes which can be taken in any order, at your convenience. Each class is designed to cover specific parts of the CGC test. We have lots of different games, tips and tricks to help you practice and successfully complete the CGC test.

**pre-requisites: to fully benefit from our CGC prep course, it is highly recommended that dogs take a basic manners or puppy class before this class.**

module 1

  • Format: 1 hour, group lesson

  • Taught in this module:

    • accepting a friendly stranger​

    • sitting politely for petting

    • appearance and light grooming by stranger

    • heel work games for the loose leash walking portion of the test

Upcoming class dates:​​​​

  • Sunday, November 3rd, 1:15 pm

  • Sunday, November 10th, 1:30 pm

module 3

  • Format: 1 hour, group lesson

  • Taught in this module:

    • walking through a crowd

    • stationary positions (for 20 foot stay)

      • practicing the formality of this test item ​

    • coming when called: recall games

    • heel work games for the loose leash walking portion of the test

  • Saturday, Nov. 30th, 2:45 pm

module 2

  • Format: 1 hour, group lesson

  • Taught in this module:​

    • heel work games for the loose leash walking portion of the test

      • these games are different than the ones introduced in module 1

      • skills are introduced in an organized manner so teams can easily practice at home before the test!

  • Format: 1 hour, group lesson

  • Taught in this module:

    • sit/down stay

      • utilizing games to enhance the stationary positions needed for the CGC

    • reaction to another dog

    • supervised separation

    • reaction to distractions

upcoming test dates 

After you complete the prep course (all 4 modules) you are welcome to take the CGC test! We do not require the prep course to take the CGC test. If you feel you have prepared well enough on your own, you are welcome to just sign up for the test!

What is included in the package?
  • a total of four, 1-hour training classes in a small group format​
  • access to our private Facebook group for extra support
  • lesson sheets each week with detailed information
    • It is a good idea to keep these so you can refer to them when you are practicing at home!  
Canine Good Citizen Test

Test Day!
  • an evaluator will administer all 10 test items â€‹
  • teams participating in the test are expected to generally know the test items with only small reminders and guidance from the evaluator
  • anyone is welcome to take the test! But we highly recommend taking the prep course!
  • teams who complete the course will receive an official AKC CGC Ribbon and official paperwork to send into AKC for your official title!​
